Today’s multinational companies are held to myriad social, environmental, and ethical standards in their supply chains. But despite efforts at monitoring, buyers routinely face challenges when working with suppliers to meet and exceed standards. A recent survey of chief supply chain officers found that over 80% of the 750 firms polled have social and environmental monitoring systems for their internal operations, but that less than a third have such systems in their immediate and extended supplier network.
